REGISTER-STAR awitwlty, 0., Aufl. t. 10SS BIG FIGHT ON FARM PRICES TO COME IN 1956 By JOHN BOOTf! INS Farm News Writer WASHINGTON Republicans and alike agree that the big fight over farm price supports will come early next year in time to supply plenty of ammunition for the 1956 presidential campaign. Congress Is set to get out of town momentarily without the Sen-; having taken any action on price support legislation. ThPj House passed a bill to restore flali 90 percent of parity supports on basic crops and the Senate could act on this measure when the new session convenes in January.

Meanwhile, however, the Senate Agriculture committee plans to hold extensive hearings in many parts of the country during the congressional recess and may come up with some legislative legislative ideas of its own. Almost the final word on flexible versus rigid supports was said in a debate between Sens. Russell Long and Thomas Kuchel (R-Cal. carried by the NBC radio-television network over the week -end. Kuchel said: "I think the big farm fight will come along next year when the question- will be, should the Eisenhower flexible price support law be continued, or should it be abolished, and should we return to 90 percent rigid parity? 1 am a firm believer in the Eisenhower program." To which Long replied: "you aie not going to get many farm votes when they see what that program really means, because that is a flexible program and it doesn 't flex any way but down, so far as we can determine.

Many side issues are Involved In the debate. First, there is the matter of increasing the Commodity Credit Corporation 's borrowing authority for price support purposes from 10 billion to 12 billion dollars. The tremendous inflow of cotton and other crops into CCC hands is expected to eat up what remains of the agency 's present lending authority within a few months. Secondly, Democrats continued to hammer away at the Administration 's failure to carry out an sales program in the attempt to sell a goodly portion of the existing surpluses in overseas markets. Some claim that CCC would not have needed more lending authority if a program had been in operation this year.

On that score, Kuchel said: "to the extent that we dispose of accumulated farm surpluses, I am for it I do not believe that the 90 percent rigid support guarantee legislation that we had under the Democratic administrations, should be reenacted, now." Long's answer was that not a single month under the Eisenhower Administration has been as as the worst month under the Democrats in any year since 1941, as far as farmers are concerned. He added: "farm mortgages are up, farm debts are up, farm assets are down, farm prices are down, farm income is down, no matter how you look at it. And all that is in violation of the pledge that the party made when Dwight D. Eisenhower ran for president." Emily Belser In They Now Dream About Shirley Jones HOLLYWOOD, August (INS) Jones, a dewcy-eyed stage-struck gal from Smithton, used to dream about Frank Sinatra and Gordon Mcltae. Now they're dreaming about her! Shirley is the blonde doll whe snagged the lead role in "Oklahoma" and then had to wait two years to play it. But it was worth it. She not only drew vocalist McRae for a man, she also grabbed another starring "Carousel" Frankie Boy Sinatra for her A-l screen boyfriend.

"When I was a freshman in high school," Shirley blushed, "I used to watch Gordon McRae interview Urge Exemption On Gas Utilized For Farm Vehicles WASHINGTON, August 8 (INS) President Eisenhower is being urged by farm groups to include in his 1956 legislative program a provision to exempt gasoline used in agricultural production from federal taxes. The session of congress just adjourned considered the proposal but took no action because repeal was tied in with highway bills which were not passed. The American Farm Bureau Federation has sent letters to the President, a Secretary George M. Humphrey and others uggesting that the levy is discriminatory and that repeal is long overdue. Shirley also was a little bug-eyed when they told her Frankie would be her love interest in "Carousel." "I've always been a fan of his. I met him once on the set of 'Guys and but I bet he doesn't remember me." One look at Shirley and a blind man would remember even the minutest eyes, natural blonde hair, and curvy 34-21-35 measurements. It was these details that earned her the title of "Miss Pittsburgh" of 1952, the "turning point of my life." "I think it's all because of my birthday.

'Oklahoma' first opened on Broadway on my birthday (March 31, 1943). I was nine years old. Then I got my first feature role on my birthday and signed my contract on my different years." Shirley, who originally was engaged to appear in the stage version of the famed musical, waded througn two Broadway shows and the filming of "Oklahoma" before she finally reached the legit Rome and Paris. She arrived in Hollywood this week, fresh from her European triumps both musical and romantic. 'Those French and Italian boys kissed my hand and asked me to marry them," she laughed, "but when I get married it'll be to the typical American garden variety.

"Those foreigners are too possessive!" Ike's Age Now Headline Issue As Solons Speak WASHINGTON, August 8 Republicans Insisted today that President Eisenhower is "younger than his years" and should not contemplate Quitting the Vvnite House because of age. Mr. Eisenhower's age became a headline issue when he told an Ohio GOP delegation a few days ago that the presidency puts an immense physical burden on a man of his age. He will be IJ 5 in October and would be 70 in final year of a second term. The President's impromptu comments gave his party fresh alarm that he would not seek a term.

Sen. Norris Cotton (R- N. said: "No two people of the same number of years have the same age. I think he is younger than his years. I would rather have Mr.

Eisenhower for President even if he were 80 than most men of fiO." Sen. Thomas II. Kuchel raid: "The President's age should be irrevelant to the question of his candidacy. He is in vigorous health. Someone has said that age is a state of mind.

I agree. "President Eisenhower's vision and leadership at Geneva were young and forward looking. I observe that Chancellor Kjnrnd Adenauer of West Germany is going in '-Or and Sir Winston Churchill's Statesmanship has continued well into his 80s. The Democratic expressed by Sen. Paul Douglas, 111.

direct comment on the age issue. Douglas summed up things by saying: "The President seems to be following the time-honored procedure of Presidents Hearing the end of the first is, keeping people guessing." Douglas explained that if the President were to announce new that he wasn't going to seek re election, his influence and power within his own party immediately would wane Theater Scktdultf OHIO "Interrupted 3:05, 5:10, 07:15, 9:25.
