JoAnn's obituary

In Loving Memory of JoAnn “JoJo” Maria Rodgers (Bichel) (1955-2024)

With heavy hearts, we mourn the unexpected passing of JoAnn “JoJo” Maria Rodgers (Bichel) on April 17th, 2024, while on vacation in her beloved paradise, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. JoJo's adventurous spirit and zest for life endeared her to all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of sharing in her adventures and travels.

Born on February 5th, 1955, to the late Lydia and Joseph Bichel, Joann was a free spirit from the very beginning. Her love for adventure and exploration knew no bounds, and she lived her life with a sense of wonder and curiosity that inspired all who crossed her path. JoJo's passion for travel took her to far-flung corners of the globe, but it was in the sandy beaches and azure waters of Cabo San Lucas that she found true solace and joy.

Joann's adventurous nature was matched only by her boundless love for her family. As a devoted mother to her daughter, Rachel Sanders, and a cherished grandmother to her grandson, Tre Theodorides, JoJo's love knew no bounds. She instilled in them a sense of wonder and curiosity, encouraging them to embrace life's adventures with open arms and fearless hearts. She cherished every moment spent in their company, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

In addition to her immediate family, JoJo leaves behind her dear brothers, Robert and Joseph M Bichel, her niece, Keri-Ann Benson whom she considered another daughter, her nephew-in-law, Donnie, her great-niece, Sylvie Benson. She is also survived by her stepchildren Rebecca Zalewski, Ashley Sanders, Kristina Tetrault, Sarah Sears, Matt Sanders, many nieces, nephews, and two beloved dogs, Jack and Cosette. JoJo's love and care-free spirit touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a permanent mark on their hearts.

In addition to her roles within her family, JoJo was a loyal friend, confidante, and source of strength to many. Her compassionate nature and genuine empathy touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her absence will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to call her a friend.

JoJo was not only a beloved family member and adventurer; she was also a retired nurse who devoted her professional life to caring for her patients. JoJo's work as the Director of Nursing in long term skilled facilities was not merely a job; it was a calling fueled by her genuine love and compassion for the elderly. She found joy in brightening their days, listening to their stories, and providing comfort and companionship to those in need. JoJo's presence brought warmth and light to the lives of the residents she cared for as well as her colleagues.

JoJo's devotion to her faith was exemplified by her love for St. Catherine Laboure, whose compassion and dedication to nursing resonated deeply with her own values. In honor of her devotion, JoJo tattooed the miraculous medal prayer, “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee” on her forearm, a permanent reminder of her unwavering faith and the guiding light it provided her.

In addition to her love for travel and exploration, JoJo had a passion for flea markets and finding a good deal. She loved nothing more than scouring for hidden treasures and unique finds, her keen eye and sharp negotiating skills always ensuring she walked away with the best bargains.

Though JoJo's journey on this earth has come to an end, her bold spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her. May she find eternal peace in the warm embrace of the sandy shores of Cabo San Lucas, forever surrounded by the beauty and wonder she so dearly loved.

A Celebration of JoJo's Life will be announced at a later date, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together, honor her memory, and share stories of her extraordinary adventures. In the meantime, let us hold JoJo's memory close to our hearts, finding solace in the love and cherished memories she leaves behind.

Rest in Peace, JoAnn “JoJo” Maria Rodgers (Bichel). Your adventurous spirit, dedication as a nurse, and love for family and friends will forever be remembered and cherished.
