When it comes to sports, Europeans are capitalists and Americans socialists. Or so they say… It sure looks that way, with EPL teams seemingly plastering logos everywhere you look.That stands in high contrast with the NFL where marketers will struggle to find any meaningful real estate to place their beloved logos. (We really do love our logos — the bigger the better).Yet the American market is so strong, and the American consumer so valuable, that the NFL (league + teams combined) manage to earn far more sponsorship revenue than any other sport on earth.Or are American marketers just less fickle with their ad dollars?

Manchester City is a football club owned by the state of Abu Dhabi that just won the Champions League last Saturday. A nightmare came true for every true football fan.I’m still not fully over the feeling of disdain I have towards the conclusion of this years Champions League final. It was won by a construct that not only is on steroids financially but knowingly broke the rules of Financial Fairplay. Bruno Fernandes, playing for the local rival Manchester United, once said „Dreams can’t be buy“, but with Manchester City eventually winning the Champions League a true football fan’s worst nightmare just came true.I spare you the greater part of my rant, because as a silver lining, following the build up to the final reminded me of one of the best pieces of advertising I have ever seen. It still serves as a blue print for great communication. Everything in this spot is spot on - The cast, the lingo, the clothing, the routines, the execution, the music, in short: CULTURE!It still puzzles me how even today, we see so few pieces of communication out there, especially in Germany, that respects cultures and communities. Instead brands opt for broad-brushed narratives and imagery.I’d love to see more work from the German ad industry that is dripping with culture like this ESPN ad, from people willing to get their hands dirty and their minds blown, in order to truly create great communication._____#culture #advertising https://lnkd.in/ekpusdBH
