Duties

This position may be filled at either GG-09 or GG-11 grade level, please indicate the grade for which you want to be considered. Incumbent may be advanced non-competitively to the established target grade upon meeting developmental benchmarks, performance requirements, and other requirements, as applicable established for the career program or specifically for the incumbent.

As a General Supply Specialist (Tractor Trailer Operator) you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Participates in planning and implementation of all supply management actions involving document control operations associated with inventory, location, documentation and related activities to include; receiving, inputting, editing, verifying and distributing documents.
  • Assists in the investigation of unusual supply and storage operation problems, such as major losses/gains of inventory, abnormal storage or shipping processing time.
  • Checks material on hand against the amount listed in the logistics enterprise system and reconciles and discrepancies.
  • Operates various electric and gas powered Material Handling equipment in support of materials movement.
  • Operates Tractor-Trailer vehicles, to include semi and full trailers, or straight inline trucks which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,000 pounds or more.
  • Operates vehicles intrastate and interstate in a variety of driving situations such as congested highways, metropolitan areas, narrow country or mountain roads and steep winding grades.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Must be able to lift cargo weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Required to pass a Department of Transportation Commercial Drivers physical examination.
  • VISION REQUIREMENTS: Vision must be correctable to 20/40.
  • LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must obtain and maintain a Class A commercial drivers license with hazardous materials endorsem*nt for the operation of vehicles over 26,000 GVW.
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Must obtain and maintain HAZMAT Certification.
  • WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time, may be called in on weekends and holidays and is subject to evening call back or extending past normal shift duty hours.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Experience must be reflected in your resume.

Specialized experience required for this position at the GG-09 level is:

  1. Examines supply systems, techniques, and procedures, automated mechanized material handling equipment and systems, maintenance, facilities management, and transportation practices;
  2. Applies knowledge of government and commercial transportation management, transportation systems, and transportation practices for supply distribution; and
  3. Maintains Inventory and production reports, shipping and receiving documents, and shipping storage areas.

OR Masters or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR Combination of education and specialized experience.

Specialized experience required for this position at the GG-11 level is:

  1. Performs oversight of government and commercial transportation management, transportation systems, and transportation practices for supply distribution;
  2. Oversees supply systems, techniques, and procedures, automated mechanized material handling equipment and systems, maintenance, facilities management, and transportation practices;
  3. Manages Inventory and production reports, shipping and receiving documents, and shipping storage areas; and
  4. Operates large vehicles, semi and full trailers, or straight in-line trucks with heavy loads.

OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

OR Combination of education and specialized experience.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified above. This is computed by total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then adding education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11.
